The Institute for Social Science Research (ISSR) undertakes solution focused research addressing societal challenges and is a national leader in advanced interdisciplinary social science and evidence-based policy research. ISSR  researchers work with diverse academic disciplines and collaborate with government agencies and the private and not-for profit sectors to address key Australian and international public policy questions that span the life course and require investigation of areas such as social inequality and wellbeing, education, employment, housing, social services, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander environments research and international development. The Institute leads advances in social science and evaluation methodology, and is developing new capabilities in health and social data science.

About This Opportunity

The opportunity exists for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Applied Education Research to join the Institute for Social Science Research, situated within the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Queensland (UQ).

  • Develop and coordinate large-scale research projects, and manage teams of more junior researchers/research assistants working on projects.
  • This opportunity enables you to work on a range of projects, including externally commissioned research projects, while offering to opportunity to pursue one’s own research within the relevant areas.

This position reports to Dr Wojtek Tomaszewski, Group Leader (Education, Employment and Disadvantage).

This position is located at UQ’s Long Pocket Campus.

Our Ideal Candidate

The successful applicant will:

  • Hold a PhD in a field applicable to Applied Research in Education (quantitative sociology, education science, sociology of education, social statistics, applied economics, public policy) or a related area, with a strong quantitative research component.
  • Apply advanced quantitative research methods skills in one or more of the following areas: quantitative social science; applied statistics; program and policy evaluation.
  • Demonstrate an interest in pursuing research in the areas of educational inequalities, educational equity, educational attainment over the life course, and/or transitions from education to employment.
  • Have an emerging profile or established record of relevant publications.

What We Can Offer

This is a full-time, fixed term position at Academic level A or B.

The remuneration for Academic Level A will be in the range of $67,542 - $90,982 p.a., plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17%.

The remuneration for Academic Level B will be in the range of $95,771 - $113,728 p.a., plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17%.
