Queensland Alliance for Environmental Health Sciences

The Queensland Alliance for Environmental Health Sciences (QAEHS) is a multidisciplinary research Centre committed to world-class research across the environment health sciences. These include environmental toxicology, epidemiology, microbiology, health risk assessment and communication, and state-of-the art monitoring and analytical technologies to quantify emerging environmental health risks.

QAEHS is funded by Queensland Health and The University of Queensland and works closely with Queensland Health to develop its research directions. The Centre pursues research excellence through competitively funded research, as well as government and industry consultancies, and has a successful track record in interdisciplinary collaborative research with international and other Australian institutions.

About This Opportunity

Multiple Postdoctoral Research Fellow opportunities are available to conduct independent research within one or more of the Emerging Environmental Health Risks group's main fields of activity. This could include:

  • Understanding sources, fate, human exposure pathways and remediation processes for per/polyfluorinated chemicals; or
  • Development and application of trace analytical methods for chemical analysis of human metabolites in urine, blood and other biotic matrices using GC-HRMS, GC-MSMS, LC-MSMS and/or LC-QToF methods; or
  • Wastewater epidemiology including work on population markers and drug analysis using LC-MSMS and LC-QToF systems.

This position is located in the at the QAEHS Centre/Pharmacy Centre of Excellence at Woolloongabba, adjacent to the Princess Alexandra Hospital.

Our Ideal Candidate

To be successful, you will hold a PhD in a related area (e.g. environmental chemistry, analytical chemistry, toxicology, etc.), partnered with experience in the research context. You will have an understanding of, and interest in, sampling and analytical approaches to monitor and characterise trace organic pollutants in humans and the environment. Your strong laboratory skills will be partnered with demonstrated experience with different sampling methodologies for organic pollutants, as well as an ability to perform in-depth and critical data analyses and, where relevant, data modelling. Finally, you will hold strong communication skills, effective interpersonal relationships, and an ability to work both independently and collaboratively with a high level of motivation.

It is a condition of employment for this role that you will be required to provide evidence of immunisation against certain vaccine preventable diseases. In addition, you must have unrestricted working rights in Australia to apply for this opportunity.

What We Can Offer

This is a full-time, fixed term position for 2 years at Academic level A.

The base salary will be in the range $67,542 - $90,982, plus super of up to 17%. The total package will be in the range $79,024 - $106,448.
