Australian Institute for Bioengineering and Nanotechnology (AIBN)

AIBN is an integrated multi-disciplinary research institute bringing together the skills of world-class researchers in the areas of bioengineering and nanotechnology.

Australian National Fabrication Facility (ANFF-Q) 

ANFF-Q is a not-for-profit research infrastructure facility established under the National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy. ANFF is a network of 8 nodes distributed throughout Australia, filled with over $200 million of investment in tooling, infrastructure and people.

ANFF’s Queensland Node (ANFF-Q) is a state-of-the-art fabrication facility specialising in microfluidics, organic electronics and opto-electronics, biomaterials, novel semiconductor materials and characterisation. ANFF-Q has facilities within the Australian Institute for Bioengineering and Nanotechnology (AIBN) and the Centre for Organic Photonics & Electronics (COPE) at The University of Queensland and within the Queensland Micro- and Nanotechnology Centre (QMNC) and the Queensland Microtechnology Facility (QMF) at Griffith University, as well as the ability to facilitate access to ANFF sites at 17 other universities around Australia.

About This Opportunity

Provide operational and a high level of technical support to scientists accessing equipment within the NCRIS Australian National fabrication Facility - Queensland Node. As the Senior Professional Officer you will be responsible for managing, maintaining and operating a range of advanced characterisation equipment. 

To allow research at the cutting edge of technology, the operations of equipment to the full extent of the equipments' capability will be sought. Using your expertise you will also provide high level advice to researchers and clients with respect to the capabilities and potential for further research utilising the equipment. 

This position is located at our picturesque St Lucia campus, renowned as one of Australia’s most attractive university campuses, and located just 7km from Brisbane’s city centre. Bounded by the Brisbane River on three sides, and with outstanding public transport connections, our 114-hectare site provides a perfect work environment – you can enjoy the best of both worlds: a vibrant campus with the tradition of an established university.

Our Ideal Candidate

A postgraduate qualification in the area of material science, chemistry, physics, engineering or an equivalent combination of relevant experience is required for the above opportunity. Experience providing training in scientific techniques including high level characterisation techniques for AFM and Confocal systems, laser scanning microscopy and fluorescence microscopy will highly desirable combined with expert knowledge in the following areas:

  • Micro & nano device characterisation
  • Atomic Force Microscopy
  • Confocal Microscopy
  • Raman/FTIR
  • A service related scientific role

It is a condition of employment for this role that you will be required to provide evidence of immunisation against certain vaccine preventable diseases.

What We Can Offer

This is a full-time, fixed term position until June 2023 at HEW level 8.

The full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $96,466.06 - $108,318.37, plus super of up to 17% (The total package will be in the range from $105,630 to $118,608. p.a pending qualification and experience this includes)
