Queensland Brain Institute (QBI)

QBI was established in 2003 and is home to more than 450 scientists and 42 laboratory leaders. Our researchers have made important advances in fundamental neuroscience and in diseases such as ageing dementia, schizophrenia and motor neurone disease.

About This Opportunity

An opportunity to create change as the Deputy Director, Operations (DDO) within QBI. The successful appointee will gain highly regarded exposure;  

  • driving strategic management and delivering a high-level oversight of the technical and administrative infrastructure and personnel for QBI consultation and governance structures, and engaging with internal stakeholders to strengthen the Institute’s standing.
  • managing the functions of finance, human resources, research higher degree, infrastructure, information technology, occupational health and safety, and scientific services; and provides strategic input into the management of the functions of advancement, innovation and commercial development.

This position is located at The Queensland Brain Institute, QBI Building (#79) within picturesque St Lucia campus, renowned as one of Australia’s most attractive university campuses, and located just 7km from Brisbane’s city centre. Bounded by the Brisbane River on three sides, and with outstanding public transport connections, our 114-hectare site provides a perfect work environment – you can enjoy the best of both worlds: a vibrant campus with the tradition of an established university.

Our Ideal Candidate

  • Postgraduate qualifications in management or relevant degree; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education and training.
  • Extensive
    • knowledge in Australian granting agencies and research funding opportunities, international funding schemes, and the structures and operation of State and Federal governments that impact on tertiary education and research funding
    • experience preferably in a tertiary education institution or relevant large organisation, including at least five years in a position with a significant focus on management
    • experience in high level organisational management, including financial and human resources management

This is a full-time, 3 years fixed term position with the option of extending a further 2 years (subject to performance) An attractive remuneration package will be negotiated with the successful candidate, including superannuation contributions of 17%.
