We are currently advertising for an Aquatic Research Technical Officer (HEW 4) within UQ Biological Resources Aquatic facilities based at St Lucia Campus, in Brisbane

About This Opportunity

The primary purpose of this role is to provide high quality research and husbandry skills and be actively involved in research projects using aquatic species.  The appointee will actively support the daily operational requirements associated with maintaining multiple recirculating aquarium systems, ensuring both optimal animal health and productivity is sustained.

This position is located at our picturesque St Lucia campus, renowned as one of Australia’s most attractive university campuses, and located just 7km from Brisbane’s city centre. Bounded by the Brisbane River on three sides, and with outstanding public transport connections, our 114-hectare site provides a perfect work environment – you can enjoy the best of both worlds: a vibrant campus with the tradition of an established university.

Our Ideal Candidate

The appointee must possess significant practical experience in the operational aspects of Recirculating Aquarium Systems (RAS) Aquaculture and/or considerable experience in producing and using animals in the research environment.  The appointee should possess qualifications in a relevant discipline. With a strong desire to develop and apply general research skills, methodological approaches, writing abilities, and the capacity to work with multidisciplinary research teams would be well regarded.

It is a condition of employment for this role that you will be required to provide evidence of immunisation against certain vaccine preventable diseases.

Medical Clearance: Working with laboratory animals is an inherent requirement of the position.  Your appointment is therefore subject to, and conditional upon, satisfactory medical clearance(s), including disclosure of relevant medical history, to undertake such work without unreasonable risk to your health and safety.  In addition, the Employee is required to fully comply with necessary ongoing health monitoring procedures and control measures associated with the position.

You must have ongoing unrestricted work rights in Australia to apply for this opportunity.

We value diversity and inclusion, and actively encourage applications from those who bring diversity to the University.
