The University of Queensland Biological Resources Unit (UQBR) manages the laboratory animal production and research facilities for the University of Queensland.

The role of UQBR is to provide UQ with world class Animal Research services within a best practice ethical framework.

About This Opportunity

We are currently advertising for a Senior Animal Technical Officer (HEW5) within UQ Biological Resources (UQBR).  This position is based at the Biological Resources Facility, located at the Translational Research Institute (TRI) in Woolloongabba, Brisbane.

In this role, you will provide advanced technical and administrative support in order to facilitate research projects and services involving animals within UQBR. The primary focus will be on providing professional support services to researchers, but may be also required to work across other areas to perform duties dependent on operational requirements.  

Our Ideal Candidate

Applicants must possess qualifications in relevant disciplines with a minimum of 2 years subsequent experience working in laboratory animal facilities.

Applicants must have extensive practical experience performing various techniques in rodents and producing and using animals in a research environment, supervising and training staff, planning and performing experiments with the ability to prioritise your own workload and meet deadlines. Experience in advanced animal surgery procedures would be well regarded.

You will have detailed knowledge in animal house administration and the care of genetically modified animals, good general research skills, excellent analytical and writing skills, and the capacity to work with multidisciplinary research teams.

It is a condition of employment for this role that you will be required to provide evidence of immunisation against certain vaccine preventable diseases.

Medical Clearance: Working with laboratory animals is an inherent requirement of the position.  Your appointment is therefore subject to, and conditional upon, satisfactory medical clearance(s), including disclosure of relevant medical history, to undertake such work without unreasonable risk to your health and safety.  In addition, the Employee is required to fully comply with necessary ongoing health monitoring procedures and control measures associated with the position.

What We Can Offer

This is a full-time, three year fixed term position at HEW level 5.

The full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $69,408 - $77,306, plus super of up to 17% and recreation leave loading of 17.5%.
