About This Opportunity

This position will undertake research in the Tissue Engineering and Microfluidics Laboratory, addressing roadblocks in perivascular stem cell manufacturing by discovering novel mechanisms and materials that improve cell quality outcomes during extended culture. You will provide biomaterial and surface design, fabrication, and characterization, along with evaluation through adult stem cell (pericyte)-based assays. You will develop close scientific collaboration with other members of the tissue engineering and microfluidics laboratory and assume a leadership role in polymer synthesis, polymer modification, surface engineering and cell-based assays.

Our Ideal Candidate

You will have completed a PhD in bioengineering, chemical engineering, or related discipline and have commensurate research experience and expert knowledge in the areas of biomaterials synthesis, modification, design and fabrication of surfaces and scaffolds, along with stem (primary) cell-based analysis/assays. Understanding of the principles of stem cell biology, culture, and associated characterisation techniques and strong competency in surface engineering, design, innovation and fabrication is essential.

You will have extensive hands-on experience in a substantial number of the following techniques; polymer characterisation techniques (GPC, FTIR, Raman, NMR), optical and confocal microscopy, AFM, surface profilometry, SEM, immunocytochemistry/ immunofluorescence, flow cytometry, FACS, RT-qPCR. You will have a track record in managing biomaterial-based projects and in the production of associated research outputs.

What We Can Offer

This is a full-time, fixed term (up to 12 months) position at Academic level A, commencing in January 2021. 

The full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $69,342- $92,782 plus super of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be in the range $81,131 - $108,555 per annum.
