About This Opportunity

This position will join Dr Melanie White's Group which focuses on applying quantitative live imaging approaches to understand the mechanobiology of tissue morphogenesis and cell fate. The researcher will use their expertise in advanced microscopy approaches to conduct and direct research into how mechanical forces direct tissue formation and the acquisition of neural cell fates. They will also aide in further establishing the Group and ensure complex in vivo experiments are designed, conducted and analysed correctly to yield maximum impact of findings. The researcher will train students in technically challenging image acquisition and analysis of live embryos as well as theoretical concepts underpinning the work.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop a coherent research program by conducting research in mechanobiology of development and publishing scholarly papers in academic peer-reviewed journals.
  • Drive the application of quantitative live imaging techniques in live avian embryos and human stem cell models.
  • Take on a leadership role in independent and/or team research programs and achieve national recognition and impact in the research area.
  • Participate in applications for competitive research funding support.
  • Work with colleagues and postgraduates in the development of interdisciplinary joint research projects.

This position is located at our picturesque St Lucia campus.

Our Ideal Candidate

A PhD, in addition to expertise in quantitative live imaging techniques including FCS, FRAP, FDAP and FRET, image analysis including PIV and use of Imaris, Fiji and Ilastik/Icy, biophysics, embryology and mechanobiology, is essential to the role.

Evidence of a contribution to research, including successful grant applications will be highly advantageous.

This is a fixed term, full time position for two (2) years at Academic level B.

The full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $99,542.80 - $118,206.73 per annum plus 17% super.
