The Institute for Molecular Bioscience (IMB) is a global leader in multidisciplinary life sciences research, bringing together 500 researchers from across the globe for disease discovery, application and sustainable futures. 

The Australian Institute for Bioengineering and Nanotechnology (AIBN) is a dynamic multi-disciplinary research institute dedicated to developing technology to alleviate societal problems in the areas of health, energy, manufacturing and environmental sustainability.

The Queensland Brain Institute (QBI) works to understand the development, organisation and function of the brain. We aim to understand the neural circuits in the brain, how their function results in behavioural outcomes, and how dysfunction of these circuits leads to disorders such as dementia, Parkinson’s disease and schizophrenia

About This Opportunity

This is a senior position within the AIBN, IMB and QBI marketing and communication team. In this role you will work closely with other managers across the institutes and the central Marketing and Communications team.

This is both a strategic and hands-on role where you will be responsible for managing the development and implementation of proactive media opportunities and integrated communication plans that enhance and protect the institutes’ reputations and engage with a broad range of external and internal stakeholders. You will liaise with journalists, proactively pitching stories and achieving results.

You will also be responsible for developing, or overseeing the development, of high-quality communications content, working closely with researchers to develop engaging communications, including features and podcasts, for our target audiences. You will also work closely with the rest of the marketing and communication team, and central teams, to ensure these stories are delivered across multiple channels with the goal of building the reputation of the institutes and UQ, as having world-leading credible and relevant research.

This position is located at our picturesque St Lucia campus, renowned as one of Australia’s most attractive university campuses.

Our Ideal Candidate

You will have extensive experience in media, communications and public relations and will hold postgraduate qualifications in a related field. You will have the ability o develop and implement integrated communication strategies that align to the organisation’s strategic priorities and content strategy that engage a range of stakeholders such as media, community, government, business and industry partners, and staff. Your exceptional writing, editing and communication skills and ability to understand and present complex scientific content in a clear and concise manner will be essential in this position. You will have excellent time-management skills and the ability to work under time pressure on multiple initiatives concurrently and to work independently and as part of a team. An interest in science, health and/or environment issues and experience in the higher education sector is desirable.

What We Can Offer

This is a full-time, fixed term (up to 12 month) position at HEW level 8.

The full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $100,264 - $112,583 plus super of up to 17%.
